Alun Williams

Alun Williams is a painter whose practice explores the spaces where history, humor, and imagination collide. For more than three decades he has reimagined overlooked characters and images—obscure historical portraits, forgotten cultural icons, or seemingly ordinary animals—and reframed them with painterly wit. His work offers a double vision: accessible, colorful, and direct at first sight, while carrying deeper reflections on how history is constructed and remembered.

Born in the UK and now based in New York, Williams has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe. His paintings are held in private and institutional collections, and he has been recognized for his ability to use humor as a critical tool without losing warmth or visual immediacy. Williams’s work reminds us that every subject, no matter how humble or forgotten, carries a story worth telling.
